Cagayan de Oro City (6 May) — This City plays host to the National Heritage Month, which kicked off April 29.
Imma Rae D. Gatuslao, acting city tourism officer, disclosed that the city is proud to host such a big event like the opening of the National Heritage Month, which formally opened at the SM City Atrium.
Gatuslao said the opening ceremonies featured the performances of the Xavier University Dance Society, Gintong Amihan Dance Troupe of the Mindanao Polytechnic State College, Rondalla of Pilgrim Christian College, and Mr. Waway Saway.
It was followed by the Darangan Performing Arts Presentation and the opening of the Traditional Arts and Crafts Demonstration that featured Maranao weaving, Hiagonon weaving, Subanen Basket, Mats and Decors, Pottery, Beadworks and Musical Instruments.
During the three-day kick-off activity of the month-long National Heritage Month celebration here in the city, other activities are lined up to provide color and meaning to the celebration such as the Traditional Arts and Churches Exhibit, COCCA dance performances, Choral Concerts and a Darangen Epic Performance and lots of historical and heritage sites tours around the city and in the province of Misamis Oriental.
Gatuslao also enjoined Cagayanons to be part of this historical event and thus be enriched with knowledge on the local cultural and historical heritage.
The city tourism officer added that to give significance to the importance of the Heritage Month celebration, City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula has pledged to host a traditional Filipino dinner for the key players of the National Heritage Month celebration.
